Vaastu Shastra is applied not only to house plot purchase and house construction, it is now applied even to shop construction and placement of goods in it. In olden days there was not much inkling in people towards making grand profits. In fact they used to exchange things with each other in accordance to what each person's requirements were (called the barter system). Now profit is forefront in every businessman's mind. Today money has become the core of the freedom for whatever man wants to do! A system has come into existence on how to make the best profits. This causes a lot of stress on the shopkeepers due to competitiveness.

To overcome stress or to totally avoid it, and to have peace while making profit, shopkeepers are falling back on Vastu Shastra, the science that gives them direction to accomplish their goal. It gives them advice in what shape to build the shop and how to arrange goods and furniture in it. It promises them not only peace but also happiness along with physical, mental and emotional health. Because of all these obvious benefits more and more people are taking the aid of Vastu Shastra in the construction of their shops and showrooms.

The most suitable shape for the plot for shop location is square or a rectangle; this shape is also ideal for the construction. An irregular shaped plot or the construction on it is not beneficial. The roof of the shop should not slope towards the main entrance and there should not be irregular shapes of the building construction. The shop should be constructed in such a way so as to allow maximum brightness entering through the main door. The staircase should not be constructed in the southwest or the northeast direction. All doors of the shop should open inwards and towards the right side. One should ensure that the door-hinges move smoothly and are soundless particularly those of the main door. If they do creak, they should be greased.

The owner of the shop is profitably seated facing the north, northeast or the east, managing the shop from that location. It is preferable to place a picture/photo of mountains at the back wall, behind the owner. Facing the west or the south directions is thought to bring losses to the business, and therefore not recommended. The cash counter or the locker should face the north. Even if it is a heavy safe or an almirah or a heavy box, the same rule applies which is that it should open facing the north. It can be placed in the southwest corner. All heavy items in the shop can occupy the southwest corner. Items like a computer or a television and all other electronic items should be placed in the southeast location. A computer can also be placed on the table towards the right side. Area in and around the shop can have plants or a garden growing which should be placed in the east or the north direction.
