Gone are the days when the human population was small as compared to the sprawling land area and big mansions freely available to it. Each occupant had enough space for himself to move freely and do whatever he wanted. The rights of the occupants of the house did not clash with those of the other members. Now, we cannot but accept the reality that we have only limited space available to us in which to spend the rest of our days. We cannot but accept that now with a restricted space to live in, each member of a house tends to demand the same right of occupying a niche in the shrunk space where only he rules and no one else. The situation looks permanently bleak but man has long had a solution which comes through the science of Vastu Shastra.

This science has come up with studies so as to bring peace and harmony to the society, beginning with the family unit. It has given great importance to house location and its building, bringing positive energy to its each and every room.

The bedroom has been given the greatest importance in the house. A square or a rectangular shape for the bedroom is considered the best shape. The bedroom is a place of privacy and total relaxation. For the head of the house, the best location of the bed is the Southwest corner. This is for full control over the house. The bed direction should be South to North so that the head is in the South with the feet towards the North. One should not sleep in the opposite direction. This step helps in a peaceful married life. The master bedroom is solely for the married couple. However, the bed should not be directly aligned to the corners of the bed. If there is an attached bathroom, it should not face the bed directly; its door should be always kept closed. Conversely, the main door to the room should open completely and not just half way.

Heavy wardrobes and shelves should be placed in the Southwest area of the bedroom. Mirror with/without the dressing table should be in the Northern or Eastern walls ensuring that it does not face the bed. Avoid a television in the bedroom. A pleasant painting or any favorite picture should be placed at the location where it can be immediately seen when one enters the bedroom. No other life, like plants or an aquarium, should be placed in the bedroom. The bedroom floor is just as important as the rest of the room. It should always be spick-and-span. There should not be any clutter around.

The location of the children's bedroom should be in the Southeast or Northwest direction.

Their beds can be placed in the Southwest direction with the heads placed in the East or South direction.

Colors on the walls of the bedroom should be soft and not gaudy and bright. Lighting also should be gentle and soft in the bedroom.
