As observed by all, life in these modern times is a world totally different from the life in the days gone by when people just existed, giving least importance to the location of their residence and construction of the house and its rooms. The negligibly esteemed amongst all the rooms was the bathroom. In fact, they really had no proper room for a bath. It used to be an open space with only curtains. The fields were used as toilets. Later on, when they began to enjoy more privacy, they constructed bathrooms but without any specific fashion. They lived in peace and harmony with each other and their neighbors.
Times have changed drastically now. Man is facing more hostility from his fellow beings around. The peace and happiness which once was there in olden days is becoming a rarity. To bring back this peace and harmony even among family members, people are engaging themselves in Vastu Shastra, the science which gives assurance for the same. More and more importance is being given to it in the purchase and construction of their houses and the different rooms in them. Bathrooms are treated with no less respect than other rooms. If one observes the style of bathrooms in modern houses, they cannot but agree to the ultra changes brought to them. It is a place where one is to himself with total privacy and relaxation amidst the elegantly perfumed soaps and scented oils.
According to the direction of Vastu Shastra, the bathroom direction, its fittings, the colors of the walls should all receive proper attention. The east is best suited for its location allowing the rays of the morning sun to enter though the north and the northwest sides are also favorable. For this reason, the bathroom should have sufficient windows, not only for good natural light but also for proper ventilation for good health and peace to the mind. The northeast side is not considered ideal. The attached toilet should face the south always and not west or the east. It should not be in the southwest, southeast or the center of the house. It should be made one or two feet above the ground.
The shower and the taps should be towards the north because the water can drain towards the northeast side which is good. The mirror and the sinks should be installed north, east or the northeast side of the bathroom. If there is a bathtub, it should be placed in the east, west or northeast sides with the head towards the south. Avoid putting the bathroom door on the southwest side. The geyser can be put in the southeast side. Place the washing machine in the southeast or the northwest locations of the bathroom. The northwest side is the best location of the house to place an overhead tank.
Colors used for the bathroom should be gentle and light. Avoid dark colors for both walls and the tiles of the floor. The bathroom should always be kept clean and shiny.
