Chinese Astrology, built on the twelve year lunar cycle, is one of the oldest known practices in the world. It is based on twelve signs represented by twelve animals, five elements, and the Yin and Yang. In Chinese astrology, one’s destiny is determined by the date of birth, birth season, and the time of birth. The positions of the planets are also used in the calculations, in which the position of Jupiter is the most important.
The twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each year is based on the sign of one of these animals, and individuals born in a particular year are said to have certain characteristics of the zodiac animal represented by their birth year. For example, a person born in the Year of Snake is often seen as wise and intelligent, while a person born in the Year of Dragon is considered ambitious and confident, and those born in the Year of Rabbit are considered to be compassionate and gentle.
The five elements in Chinese astrology symbolize distinct qualities. Fire embodies passion and energy, igniting enthusiasm and drive. Wood signifies growth and creativity, while Earth represents stability and nourishment, providing a solid foundation for balance. Water reflects intuition and adaptability, and Metal stands for precision and refinement, bringing clarity and structure to life. The Yin and Yang are two opposite and complementary forces believed to be constantly in balance.
As per the Chinese legends, Buddha assigned each year to a specific animal. According to the beliefs, Budha summoned all animals to visit him in his death bed. Only twelve answered his call, and in gratitude for their presence, Buddha honored each of them by dedicating a year in their name.
Combining the zodiac animals, the elements, and the balance of Yin and Yang, Chinese astrology provides insights into one’s personality traits and life paths. By understanding these individuals, one can gain a deeper appreciation of their strengths, challenges, and potential for growth.
